May Mountain Skills
Fantastic weather this weekend for David, Richard and Stuart on our 2 day Mountain Skills course. We headed over to the Carneddau for the first day. From Bethesda we walked through Gerlan and into Cwm Caseg and up the North East ridge of Yr Elen. Carnedd Llewelyn was next and then a descent via Cwm Pen Llafar and back to Bethesda. A great mountain journey with navigation using different scale maps, route choice as well as other topics. A highlight of the day was hearing the cuckoo as well as spotting a Ring Ouzel. The Carneddau can sometimes be seen as barren and featureless but if you keep your eyes open, there's much to be seen and enjoyed!
The second day was on the Glyderau and public transport took us to Ogwen where we aimed for the Y Gribin ridge to experience some steeper ground and expand on the movement skills of the first day. Some light snow showers added interest but low winds meant we could enjoy the experience of using Grade 1 terrain to reach the summits. From Glyder Fawr we descended via Twll Du to Cwm Idwal and back to Ogwen.
A cracking couple of days, good company, varied mountain terrain, stunning scenery and lots of mountain skills!!
